Rice prices today on July 16, 2023 in the Mekong Delta region remained stable with rice prices. Accordingly, at An Giang warehouse, the price of IR 504 summer-autumn rice crop is being purchased by traders at 6,600 – 6,800 VND/kg, Dai fragrant 8 rice fluctuates around 6,900 – 7,100 VND/kg; OM 5451 rice ranges from 6,400 to 6,600 VND/kg; OM 18 rice price 6,600 – 6,800 VND/kg; Miss Hoa 9 costs 6,600 – 6,800 VND/kg; Japanese rice is also stable at 7,800 – 8,000 VND/kg; Nang Nhen rice (dry) at 13,000 VND/kg.

With sticky rice, An Giang (fresh) is being purchased by traders at 5,800 – 6,000 VND/kg; Long An sticky rice (fresh) ranges from 6,300 to 6,400 VND/kg; AG (dry) sticky rice at 7,400 – 7,600 VND/kg; Long An sticky rice (dry) costs 7,700 – 7,900 VND/kg.

For rice, the price of raw materials and finished products increased. Accordingly, IR 504 raw rice is at 10,100 – 10,200 VND/kg, an increase of 100 – 150 VND/kg. Similarly, finished rice increased by 150 VND/kg to 11,450 – 11,500 VND/kg.

With by-products, the price of IR 504 sheet increased by 100 VND/kg to 9,700 – 9,800 VND/kg. Meanwhile, the price of dried bran dropped to 7,350 VND/kg, down 150 VND/kg.

According to traders, now that the amount of rice is small, the price of rice in buckets tends to increase slightly. The price of white rice is stable, the demand for buying is high. Summer-autumn rice market continues to be anchored high, with many new transactions.

Huong Lai rice costs 19,000 VND/kg; Common white rice costs 14,500 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice costs 18,500 VND/kg; Soc rice usually fluctuates from 14,000 to 15,000 VND/kg.

Soc Thai rice stable price 18,000; Taiwanese fragrant rice costs 20,000 VND/kg; Japanese rice costs 22,000 VND/kg and bran remains at 8,500 – 9,000 VND/kg.

In the export market, export rice prices remained stable compared to the previous session. Specifically, 5% broken rice traded at 513 USD/ton; 25% broken rice was at $493/ton and Jasmine rice was stable at $578/ton.

According to businesses, the price of export rice skyrocketed due to the affected supply. Countries that fear drought should buy rice to stock up.

Last year, India also banned rice exports to ensure domestic food security; pulled the price of rice in the world increased sharply, including the export price of Vietnam’s rice.

In addition to the traditional market, the Philippines buys 2.5-3.1 million tons of Vietnamese rice each year, recently, businesses have also received many contracts from China and Indonesia. Some countries in South Africa are returning to buy Vietnamese rice, so the price of this item skyrocketed.

From the end of 2023 to the beginning of 2024, Vietnamese rice can set a new record in export prices. However, the price increase depends on the major rice exporting countries such as India and Thailand. Therefore, businesses need to consider before signing a contract to get the best selling price.
