Rice prices today on August 27 in the domestic market went sideways after a downward correction yesterday. The weekend rice trade was gloomy.

Rice prices today, August 27, in the Mekong Delta region remained stable after a week of mixed increases and decreases.

At An Giang warehouse, according to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the price of IR 504 rice today did not fluctuate and remained at 7,750 – 7,900 VND/kg; OM 5451 was stable at 7,750 – 8,000 VND/kg; OM 18 rice price ranges from 7,800 – 8,200 VND/kg; Hoa 9 kept stable 7,800 – 8,200 VND/kg; Nang Nhen rice (dry) at 15,000 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 rice and Japanese rice were stable at 7,800 – 8,000 VND/kg.

Similarly, fresh Long An sticky rice remained stable at 7,200 – 7,500 VND/kg and fresh An Giang sticky rice was 6,300 – 6,400 VND/kg.

In the past week, rice prices were adjusted to increase by about 200 VND/kg, depending on rice variety, compared to last weekend. In general, rice prices have become more stable after the sharp increase at the end of July 2023, but transactions are slower because traders stopped buying to observe the market.

For rice products, after yesterday’s downward adjustment, it now remains stable at 12,250 – 12,400 VND/kg with IR 504 raw rice and IR 504 finished rice at 14,350 – 14,450 VND/kg.

In addition, by-product prices did not fluctuate, in which the price of IR 504 panels was at 12,000 – 12,100 VND/kg and the price of dry bran remained at 7,500 – 7,550 VND/kg.

In general, rice prices this week were adjusted down slightly compared to last weekend due to slow rice purchasing by warehouses.

At retail markets in An Giang province, rice prices were stable and did not fluctuate over the past week. In which, the price of glutinous rice is 16,000 – 20,000 VND/kg; Normal rice is at 12,500 – 14,000 VND/kg, Nang Nhen rice is at 23,000 VND/kg; long grain fragrant rice ranges from 18,000 – 20,000 VND/kg; Jasmine fragrant rice at 16,000 – 18,500 VND/kg; Huong Lai 19,500 VND/kg; common white rice 15,500 VND/kg; Miss Hoa 19,000 VND/kg; Soc rice usually costs 16,500 – 17,000 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice 18,500 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice 21,000 VND/kg; Japanese rice 22,000 VND/kg…

In the export market, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the price of rice for export this week has increased again after falling by 20 USD/ton last week. Currently, Vietnam’s 5% broken rice price continues to maintain the top position in the world at 638 USD/ton (higher than Thailand’s 10 USD/ton higher than Thailand’s rice of the same type); 25% broken rice is also stable at 623 USD/ton, 58 USD/ton higher than Thai rice of the same type (Thailand’s 25% broken rice is currently at 565 USD/ton).

This week, the world rice market continued to fluctuate when India imposed a 20% tax on parboiled rice exports and this order took effect immediately from August 25. This is believed to be a move that could further reduce exports from the world’s largest exporter and lift global parboiled rice prices (currently global rice prices are trading near 12-year highs). With this tax, Indian parboiled rice will become as expensive as supplies from Thailand and Pakistan because currently there are almost no options for buyers…

Besides India, according to SSResource Media Pte.Ltd (Singapore) – a unit specializing in providing information and analysis of the world rice market, a reliable source from Myanmar officials said that the Government of this country will announced the restriction of exports of all types of rice in the period from September 1 to October 15, 2023.
